Just a quick one here to follow up on the last post. For the past two nights, protest crowds have grown in size and marches have taken place across downtown, in addition to the gatherings at the Capitol building. Police have let these gatherings, which have been exceedingly peaceful, continue well past curfew. They have been breaking up the protests later each night, around 11 p.m. or midnight Monday night, depending on accounts/location, and closer to 1 a.m. last night.
Police have not held lines as aggressively and have generally moved to avoid escalating protests the last couple nights. That is until they decided to clear the protest areas and the smoke bombs/pepper spray came out. By this time, the crowds had thinned significantly, and some still present were ready to leave after a long day. The skirmishes that followed police action were markedly smaller and less intense than the previous nights when police intervention came earlier with far greater force.
